Designed by Zaven for Zanotta, Za:Za Max represents the evolution of Za:Za, the sofa awarded the Compasso d’Oro 2024, inheriting its legacy while extending the design research towards new dimensions of comfort, modularity, and innovation.
The load-bearing structure is crafted in painted steel – available in talc, hemp, orange, amaranth, grass green, espresso, and black – and is complemented by rigid anthracite polyester straps that support the cushions, ensuring both durability and comfort. The upholstery of Za:Za Max, the result of careful material and performance research, provides a calibrated balance between support and softness thanks to its dual-density composition: polyurethane in the lower or rear section of the cushion, and regenerated and regenerable polyester microbeads in the upper or front section. Both the microbeads and the inner lining are sourced from a recycled PET supply chain derived from recovered bottles. Each upholstered element – seat, backrest, and armrests – is housed in separate pockets and assembled without adhesives, ensuring material separability and facilitating end-of-life recovery. Each element is attached to the frame via snap fasteners, while the fully removable fabric upholstery is offered in a wide colour range, enabling customisation and seamless integration into both domestic and contract interiors.
This year, during Milan Design Week, Zanotta presented in addition two new poufs (95×75×44 cm and 95×95×44 cm), complementing the existing double-seat pouf in the catalogue (150×75×44 cm). These additions enhance the system’s compositional possibilities while maintaining the sofa’s constructional and aesthetic characteristics.
Thanks to its deep seating and generous proportions, Za:Za Max invites relaxation and accommodates multiple configurations through the modularity of its elements. Its soft, enveloping forms define a contemporary language capable of integrating effortlessly into a variety of interior settings.
Za:Za Max establishes itself as a versatile and innovative seating system, combining advanced design research with compositional freedom in a recognisable, timeless aesthetic.
