Zanotta renews the collaboration begun in 2024 with the Belgian duo Muller Van Severen, presenting three new chests of drawers that join the Z24 collection, along with the new Z24 Books bookcase. These distinctive pieces of furniture play with shape and colour, featuring surprising and dynamic geometries that mark a new chapter in the exploration of the expressive potential of the iconic zig-zag motif.

“For us, this presents the perfect opportunity to blend our own quirky design language with Zanotta’s iconic aesthetic. We feel empowered to think beyond conventional boundaries while still creating strong, cohesive designs that honor the brand’s legacy. As sculptors, our aim is to create designs that are as sculptural as they are surprising — using innovative forms, materials, and colors that enrich the space without overwhelming it. Within Zanotta this is possible.” - say Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, Co-Founders of Muller Van Severen

The new self-standing Z24 Books bookcase, available in two heights (185cm and 113cm), is designed to be placed against a wall or positioned in the centre of the room as a room divider. The innate versatility of the piece allows Z24 Books to function either as a standalone element or as part of a larger linear composition, offering maximum design flexibility.

The bookcase’s sides, made of glossy painted steel, are characterised by the iconic zig-zag motif, creating a striking visual and sculptural impact. This element, available in talc, caramel, orange, amaranth, and algae colourways, blends harmoniously with the fixed natural oak shelves, resulting in a refined material contrast between the solidity of wood and the visual lightness of metal. The balanced repetition of carefully arranged triangular shapes creates a captivating rhythmic landscape, while the interplay of light and shadow enhances the perception of depth and dynamism.

“We like to bring together surprising shapes, color combinations and materials. So that they form a kind of balance but also contrast with each other. But each addition of form should also have a meaningful functional purpose. The recurring zig-zag shape is both a very sculptural element and at the same time this shape reinforces the structure and makes gaps and joints invisible, creating pure yet distinct shapes and at the same time can be used to form an endless chain.” - Muller Van Severen

The new chests of drawers expand the Z24 family by interpreting the zig-zag motif, previously presented vertically, in a new horizontal version. These three new pieces are available in the following dimensions: 56cmx128cm, 120cmx86cm and 160cmx65cm, and come in a range of colours including talc, wax, hemp, caramel, orange, amaranth, grass green, algae, espresso and black.

Naturally integrating into the collection, these additions maintain a consistent stylistic language while allowing each piece to express a distinct identity. The balance between coherence and contrast highlights the expressive power of the Z24 collection, which has the ability to transform and enrich any space, from the living room to the bedroom, with furnishings that seamlessly unite function and personality.

The renewed collaboration between Zanotta and the Belgian duo reflects the Italian brand’s ability to engage with some of the most authoritative voices in international design, merging tradition with experimentation to create furniture that responds to the needs of contemporary living.
